Enrolling/Contracting
in ROTC
Enrolling:
Enrolling
in ROTC incurs no obligation to the US Army. Students may enroll
in the program to explore the military profession before deciding
to commit to it.
Before enrolling,
prospective cadets should contact the Gold Bar Recruiter at (785)
864 - 1113 or by email at goldbar@ku.edu.
The Gold Bar Recruiter is a graduate of KU and has been commissioned
through KU ROTC, and can answer questions prospective cadets
may have about the ROTC program. Should the student decide to
enroll in ROTC, the Gold Bar Recruiter can guide the student
through the process of joining ROTC.
Contracting:
Army ROTC
is a college elective in which the Department of Military Science
provides a program of instruction and training for college men
and women leading to a commission as an officer (Second Lieutenant)
in the Active Army, Army Reserves, or National Guard after graduation
from college. Students may pursue a degree in any major of their
choice in a recognized field while taking Army ROTC courses.
Army ROTC
is a 4-year program comprised of two 2-year parts. The
first part, the Basic Course, must be validated prior to taking
the Advance Course. There are several ways of validating
the Basic Course. These are: Completing the Basic Course
on campus (1 credit hour per semester); attending the six week
Basic Camp at Ft. Knox, Kentucky or; be a veteran or member of
the US Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard.
Attending
the Basic Course, or Basic Camp incurs NO obligation unless the
Army Cadet has received and accepted a scholarship.
To
enter the Advance Course (3 credit hours per semester), the
student must have at least junior status, a 2.00 cumulative
GPA, be seeking a bachelor’s degree in a recognized field,
have validated the Basic Course and pass qualifying medical
and evaluation examinations. It is at this time a contract
is entered into and a military service obligation is incurred
