Federal Scholarships- 2, 3 and 4 year High School Scholarships

The Army ROTC Federal Scholarship will cover 100% of your tuition and fees, $1200 a year for books and up to $500 in a monthly stipend to help with living expenses.  Scholarships are available in lengths of 2, 3 or 4 years, depending on which academic year you are and your college graduation date.  If you would like additional information or to fill out a scholarship application, go to www.goarmy.com/rotc/scholarships.html, click on the High School Students link to create an account and start your application process.  Initial Application Deadline for high school students is 10 January. Green to Gold

KU Army ROTC also accepts 2, 3, and 4 year Green-to-Gold (GTG) Scholarship recipients, Active Duty Option (ADO) recipients and Non-Scholarship GTG students as well. The GTG program is designed for active duty soldiers who desire to complete their education and earn their commission as a 2LT in the Active Duty, National Guard, or Army Reserves. On Campus Scholarships

On Campus scholarships are offered to both current and future students who were not offered or did not apply for the Federal ROTC Scholarship or Green-to-Gold program.  These scholarships range in length from 2 to 4 years.  Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance for $1200 per year and also receive a monthly stipend. 

Nursing Scholarship

Army ROTC offers scholarships for qualified nursing students who seek to become an Army Nurse. Students who receive a Nursing Scholarship are guaranteed a job as an Army Nurse in an Army hospital upon graduation and commissioning. Nursing scholarships also include board fees, a stethoscope, and all class expenses directly related to nursing. Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) scholarships are available through the USAR for students that desire to participate in the Senior ROTC program. These scholarships guarantee that the student once graduated from school and commissioned in the U.S. Army must serve their obligation in the USAR or ARNG. USAR scholarships provide for two years of benefits. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have exactly two years of school remaining. Contact the Professor of Military Science (PMS) at your school's Army ROTC department to determine specific eligibility requirements. These scholarships pay up to $20,000 for tuition and fees or room & board. The student can choose which option they desire. In addition, a $900 per year book allowance is paid to the student. Also, a cadet stipend is paid per month to the student in the following amounts: $400 for the junior year and $500 for the senior year. Cadet may also use the Chapter 1606 or Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB), if eligible. See PMS to determine eligibility for the Selected Reserve (SR)-MGIB and kicker. The Kicker pays $350 per month in addition to what is paid by the SR-MGIB. The USAR-GRFD scholarship student must participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) with an USAR unit prior to commission. Cadets whom participate in the SMP are paid at the rank of E-5, approximately $225 per month, unless the cadet was already in the USAR and holds a rank higher than E-5.

Army National Guard Scholarship (ARNG)

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) and Dedicated Army National Guard (DEDNG) scholarships are available through the Army Reserve Officers' Training Course (ROTC). These scholarships guarantee that commissioned Cadets serve ARNG. GRFD scholarships are available for up to two years and allow simultaneous use with the Select Reserve Montgomery GI Bill (a.k.a. “Guard” GI bill, chapter 1606 or 1607). The DEDNG scholarship is available for up to three years but does not allow simultaneous use with the Guard GI bill. Major scholarship qualifications include: US citizenship, 2.5 GPA, under 31 years of age for the entire year of commissioning, pass the Army Physical Fitness Test, meet Army height/weight standards, full-time student, and be of good moral character. Contact the Professor of Military Science (PMS) at your school's Army ROTC department to determine eligibility, and don't forget to tell him you're interested in an ARNG scholarship.

These scholarships pay full tuition and mandatory fees, or can pay room & board (not to exceed $10,000 per year). Room & board payment is for on campus (pays actual cost, not to exceed $10,000) or off-campus (pays the average R&B plan for the university, not to exceed $10,000). All scholarships come with a $1,200 per year book allowance paid directly to the student. National Guard scholarships for room & board can be used with federal and/or state tuition assistance to cover all major college expenses (tuition & fees, room & board, books). Cadets are also paid a monthly stipend in the following amounts: $350 for the sophomore year, $400 for the junior year, and $500 for the senior year. If eligible for Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) the student may qualify for an additional $350 per month MGIB “SMP” kicker.

Note that all ARNG scholarship students must participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) with an ARNG unit while in school. The Cadet drills with an ARNG unit and paid at the rank of E-5, approximately $250 per month, unless already in the ARNG and holds a rank higher than E-5.
